Episode 214: The Abduction of Kari Swenson
Kari Swenson was just 23 years old when she was a world biathlon competitor and athlete. On July 15, 1984, she was out for a training run in the Ulerys Lake area in Montana, she was abducted by a survivalist father-son duo, Don and Dan Nichols, who planned to force Kari to marry 19 year old Dan. When she didn’t return to the ranch she worked on, a search party set out to find her. When two of the searchers found Kari tied up, a chaotic scene unfolded in which one man lost his life and Kari nearly lost hers. She is only alive today due to her perseverance, resilience, and physical strength.

Episode 213: The Murder of Sidney Wells
Sidney Wells was headed into his senior year of college with the world at his feet. He had dreams of becoming a journalist and maybe enlisting in the Navy. His life was cut short when he was murdered in the condo he shared with his brother Sam and their roommate, Thayne Smika. The investigation led to Thayne, but by the time they had enough evidence, he was in the wind. A Hollywood connection brought Sid’s case to the national media, but his case is still open. Linda Culbertson was a single mother of 3 who began a secretarial job working at the law office of Attorney Donald Pierce. While all who knew Don said he was a kind, hard working man who was madly in love with his wife, Linda perceived every interaction differently. In 1989 when Don was murdered at the office, few were in the building to say what happened. Investigators then uncovered a trail of jealousy, deceit, obsession and some — interesting — office supplies.

Episode 211: The Magee Family Murders
Our case brings us to the Covington, Louisiana area where Adrienne and Jamie Magee fell in love and welcomed 3 beautiful children. Behind closed doors though, the couple’s marriage suffered. After Adrienne had had enough, she and the children moved out. In spring 2007, when Jamie realized Adrienne wasn’t coming back to him, he took his rage out on his family. His actions ended the lives of two people and landed him on death row.

Episode 210: The Black Swan Murder
Ashley Byers met Douglas Benefield at an event and just 13 days later, the couple married. Doug was in his 50s, a widower, raising a teenage daughter on his own while Ashley was a ballerina and model. Their marriage deteriorated prior to the birth of the couple’s daughter, and they spent years on and off again. In September 2020, Ashley ran to a neighbors home in a panic asking them to call 911. She had shot Doug. She claims she killed him in self defense, critics argue it was cold blooded murder.
