RED SOX POSTCAST: May Solid, Bats Pretty Much Lifeless in Loss to Orioles
The Red Sox (68-58) dropped their 2nd straight at Fenway with a 6-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles in the series opener Monday night. The Sox managed only 6 hits and never led at any point and have now lost 3 in a row at home to the Orioles. The Red Sox remain 5.0 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East with the Jays losing to the Pittsburgh Pirates. -----Going with May: Dustin May made his 3rd start for the Red Sox and turned in his 2nd consecutive strong outing with 6 Innings of 2-run baseball. May gave up a solo Home Run to Gunnar Henderson in the 3rd. In the 4th, Dylan Beavers made it 2-0 with a 2-out, RBI Single. May left with the Sox trailing by 2 runs. He walked 1 and struck out 7.----- Sox at the Dish: The Red Sox managed only 3 hits (all Singles) and no runs over the 1st 6 innings by Orioles starting pitcher Trevor Rogers. He retired the side in order in the 5th and again in the 6th and started the 7th having retired 14 of 15 hitters. In the 7th, the Red Sox got 2 runners on base for the first time in the game against Rogers. Alex Bregman walked and went 1st to 3rd on a Double from Trevor Story. Bregman scored the Sox 1st run when he scored on a Sacrifice Fly from Jarren Duran. Ceddanne Rafaela struck out on 3 pitches and stranded Story at 3rd Base. Romy Gonzalez went 0-for-3 with 2 Ks in Monday's game and over his last 8 games is now 5-for-27 with 0 extra-base hits, 1 RBI and 9 Ks. Nathaniel Lowe pinch-hit for Gonzalez and walked.
