The Phoenix Suns have an open roster spot after waiving Haywood Highsmith Wednesday, bringing about questions of what they’ll do with the opening, if anything. With preseason less than two months away, the offseason is in full swing and there are a number of free agents who would qualify as valuable additions in a 15th roster spot.

 

On today’s PHNX Suns show, Erik, Gil and Stephen talk through a list of free agents and whether or not it would be worth the Suns’ while to take a flier on them. Conversely, would the best laid plan be to find a way to bring Highsmith back?

The Phoenix Suns’ schedule for the 2026-27 NBA season is officially here and, while we knew the Suns would play the league’s other 29 teams, we now know when everything will happen. From opening night on Oct. 21 to the April 11 season finale, there is plenty that jumps off the page at first glance.

 

Today’s PHNX Suns show gets into the several make-or-break segments that pop up throughout the season, beginning with a stretch that could help the team set the tone. Erik, Gil, Stephen and Aryton each talk through these key stretches and what they could mean for the Suns in the grand scheme of things.

The Phoenix Suns now know four confirmed dates on their schedule for the upcoming season as the league today revealed the details for the 2026 NBA Cup. Phoenix knew it would be facing the Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets and Utah Jazz, but it now knows times dates, and locations for each matchup.

 

As we move one day closer to knowing the full schedule, PHNX Suns first takes a look at the unique challenges presented within the NBA Cup slate. How does the Suns’ slate compare to other groups around the league? And can Phoenix advance to the Knockout Round as it has done in the 2023 and 2025 iterations of the in-season tournament?

The Phoenix Suns exceeded expectations in 2025-26 yet it appears the disrespect is still running rampant when it comes to this team. Similar to the low national perception via power rankings, members of the Suns are not being rewarded for their play, per their overall ratings on the forthcoming NBA 2K27 video game.

 

And while many write off and view video game ratings as unimportant or trivial figures, it does give some idea of how individual talents are being assessed on the Suns roster. As it stands, Dillon Brooks is the only Suns player to have had their rating revealed, and while he is in the top 100, his overall has taken a hit from the end of last year’s game. Will it be the same for everyone else?

 

Today, Gil and Espo will predict the 2K ratings for key players and get into the larger discussion of perception and what these things mean.
