• Episode 529: The Woman in the Yard, Locked, Movie News LIVE!

  Totally by coincidence, both of our movies this week are about characters who are stuck inside. But we hope you're getting out and about and enjoying the springtime, and that you'll take us with you here at Breakfast All Day. We begin with a review of "The Woman in the Yard," which Universal didn't screen for critics before opening day. The latest Blumhouse horror movie stars the always great Danielle Deadwyler as a widow and mother of two, dealing with a mysterious and menacing ... woman in the yard. In theaters. We also catch up with "Locked," which came out last weekend. Bill Skarsgård finds himself trapped in a fancy SUV when he picks the wrong car to steal from a Vancouver parking lot. Anthony Hopkins is the voice of the car owner who torments him remotely. Also in theaters. And we finally did Movie News LIVE! for the first time in about three weeks. Things have been a little crazy around here. Among the topics we talked about were "No Other Land" director Hamdan Ballal, Sundance leaving Park City, Rachel Zegler, "Avengers: Doomsday" and more. • Episode 528: Snow White, Magazine Dreams, Eephus, The Alto Knights

  A little birdie told us you were looking for a new episode of our Breakfast All Day podcast, so we whipped one up for you (and whistled a happy tune while we did it). We have a full slate of reviews for you this time. "Snow White" is the big movie of the week: the latest live-action reimagining of a Disney animation classic. Rachel Zegler stars as the O.G. princess, with Gal Gadot playing the Evil Queen. Lots of people are mad at this movie for a variety of ridiculous reasons. If you decide to see it for yourself, let us know what you think. It's in theaters. Also opening this week, finally, is "Magazine Dreams." This is the film that was supposed to cement Jonathan Majors' status as a major talent of our time -- then he was arrested and convicted of assault and harassment. He gives an incredible performance in a film filled with craft, if you can separate the art from the artist, and we don't blame you if you can't. It's tough. In theaters. We also catch up with the indie baseball movie "Eephus," which is a delightfully shaggy hang. Carson Lund fills the screen with eccentric characters and a rich sense of place, inspired by his baseball-obsessed youth in Nashua, NH. We both loved this movie. Director Barry Levinson goes through the motions in trotting out mob tropes. It's also in theaters, but you can miss this one. • Episode 527: The Electric State, Opus reviews

  It's a Pi Day miracle: We recorded these reviews in the same place at the same time for the first time in a long time. Five years, to be exact. And it was so nice to be together again at Alonso's apartment on this rainy day in LA. We begin with "The Electric State," an empty, ugly, $320 million action extravaganza from longtime MCU directors Anthony and Joe Russo. It's a retro-futuristic, post-apocalyptic story set in the '90s, after humans and robots have gone to war. The ridiculous cast includes Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Stanley Tucci, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Ke Huy Quan and Woody Harrelson as Mr. Peanut. Yes, you read that right. Streaming now on Netflix. We were also disappointed with "Opus," about a legendary pop star who invites a group of journalists to his remote retreat to listen to his first album in three decades. It's an A24 horror movie, and it feels awfully familiar. It also features an impressive cast including Ayo Edebiri, John Malkovich, Murray Bartlett, Juliette Lewis and Amber Midthunder. • Episode 526: Novocaine, Black Bag reviews (NO Spoilers!)

  This Friday is so jam-packed with new movies that we wanted to review a couple of them early for you here at Breakfast All Day. We begin with the action comedy "Novocaine," starring Jack Quaid as a mild-mannered bank manager who feels no pain. When robbers kidnap the woman he adores (Amber Midthunder), he finds his affliction is actually an asset. One of us liked this movie better than the other. But we both loved "Black Bag," starring Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett as British spies who love each other but don't totally trust each other. This is the second film this year from director Steven Soderbergh and writer David Koepp, following "Presence" in January. It's sleek, sexy and stylish. This is a spoiler-free review.   If you thought one Robert Pattinson was good, wait 'til you see two of them in "Mickey 17."  We couldn't wait to review the latest sci-fi/satire extravaganza from the great South Korean auteur Bong Joon Ho, his first film since the historic Oscar wins of his 2019 masterpiece, "Parasite." But while we both enjoyed Pattinson's dual performances, we're split on how effective "Mickey 17" is as a whole. Co-starring Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette. In theaters now.
