- Welcome to another episode of Retrotopia: Another Video Game Podcast. This is a show where we, Alan, Brian, and Sam, get together to discuss video games from years gone by. We like to look at video games from the perspective of lifelong gamers and how they hold up in the retro sphere.
This week things went to hell in a hand basket as our schedules and last minute foibles caused us to not be able to coordinate a recording time. So we have kicked the can that is Metal Gear Solid down the road a little and to make up for it Brian has decided to talk about what he has learned about making a video game as a solo developer. This is years of studying, classes, theory, practice, watching videos, and talking to professors which has been compiled by him in this nice neat little package.

Each month, Joe and Brian pull up a chair for an unscripted conversation that can go just about anywhere—from industry trends and gaming history to personal stories and the occasional completely unexpected tangent.
For the September 2026 edition of RetroBytes Neo, we welcome Super Dave from the Anime Field Guide for a lively discussion about the fascinating relationship between anime and video games. Together, they explore how anime has influenced gaming, how video games have inspired anime adaptations, and why the two mediums have become so closely connected. From iconic franchises and beloved adaptations to games that feel like playable anime, they look at what makes the crossover work—and what happens when it doesn't. It's an entertaining conversation about fandom, nostalgia, and the unique way anime and video games continue to influence each other.
