- This week’s Headline: we unpack the case behind HBO's creepiest new docuseries, "The Pet Cemetery Murders: A Ghost Story." In 1985, Dorothy Lou Thompson was in a legal fight over her Louisiana pet cemetery. Ten days before her court date, she vanished, and weeks later she was found in the Mississippi River. The case sat cold until 2009, when a caller told detectives he knew who did it. His reason for coming forward? Dorothy’s ghost had appeared to him.

29/10/2026 | 27min“Supposing I did kill the Black Dahlia. They couldn’t prove it now.” Detectives caught those words on a hidden microphone in 1950, and still crossed the man off their list. In the final part of our 3-part series on the Black Dahlia, Katie Ring covers a rogue police psychiatrist, a detective who accused his own father, a codebreaker who says he cracked a Zodiac cipher, and the 1947 suspect two separate investigations just landed on.

TikTok: @the.self.defense.girl- Elizabeth Short’s mother was told her daughter had won a beauty contest. It was a reporter’s trick to get her talking, and the truth came minutes later. In the second part of our 3-part series on the Black Dahlia, Katie Ring covers the morning Elizabeth was found, the newspaper war that rewrote who she was, and an envelope of her belongings scrubbed clean of every fingerprint.

TikTok: @the.self.defense.girl - Before she was “the Black Dahlia,” Elizabeth Short was a movie-struck kid from Massachusetts whose father vanished off a Boston bridge, then turned up alive twelve years later. In the first part of our 3-part series on the Black Dahlia, Katie Ring traces who Elizabeth really was: the fiancé she lost days before the war ended, the stories she told strangers to get by, and the last place anyone can prove she was seen alive.

TikTok: @the.self.defense.girl - Something has crept into this feed…For Halloween, Hidden History with Dr. Harini Bhat has slipped through the walls to haunt your feed with an episode just for you.
For nearly three hundred years, something strange has been stalking the Pine Barrens of southern New Jersey: a winged, hooved, horse-headed creature first reported in 1735 and seen by hundreds in a single terrifying week in January 1909. Schools closed, police fired their revolvers, and a Philadelphia dime museum cashed in on the chaos with a painted kangaroo. But beneath the hoaxes and newspaper hysteria, witnesses with nothing to gain kept coming out of those woods with the same description. This episode examines the historical, scientific, and supernatural theories behind America's oldest cryptid legend.
