- I’ll Be Gone In the Dark by Michelle McNamara (Audiobook) - https://amzn.to/46zMOte
Across 1970s California, families began awakening to flashlight beams, cut telephone lines and a masked intruder who appeared to know their routines before entering their homes. He bound couples, constructed alarms from stacked dishes and escaped through backyards, drainage canals and police perimeters without leaving an identity behind.
In Northern California, authorities called him the East Area Rapist. Farther south, another series of crimes was attributed to the Original Night Stalker. Separated by hundreds of miles, conflicting theories and jurisdictional boundaries, the cases gradually became part of a mystery unlike anything investigators had encountered.
As communities armed themselves and police formed specialized task forces, the man they were hunting continued to anticipate their movements. Then, without explanation, he disappeared.
Years later, true-crime writer Michelle McNamara entered the investigation and gave its faceless subject a name: the Golden State Killer.
In the Season Three finale of Nightwatch Files, we follow the decades-long search for one of America's most elusive predators and the disturbing question investigators could not answer: how did he always seem to know what they would do next?

23/08/2026 | 1h 14minWhen the publishers of a small newsletter criticized eBay, an anonymous harassment campaign moved from their inbox to their doorstep.
For two decades, Ina and David Steiner reported on eBay, Amazon, and the changing world of online commerce through their independent publication, EcommerceBytes. Their work was often critical, but nothing prepared them for the anonymous message that appeared in August 2019 asking, “What’s your problem with eBay?”
Within days, threatening messages were followed by unwanted subscriptions, disturbing deliveries, and strangers arriving at the couple’s home in Natick, Massachusetts. Whoever was responsible knew where the Steiners lived, understood their routines, and seemed determined to force them into silence. But what had two small-business journalists published to provoke such an elaborate campaign? Who possessed the resources to carry it beyond the internet, and what did the harassers ultimately want from them?
This episode examines the case that became known as the eBay cyberstalking scandal, tracing how routine reporting became the apparent catalyst for a campaign involving anonymous accounts, corporate power, physical surveillance, and a plan far more calculated than its targets could have imagined.

All stories, research, and scripts are created by real people.- On June 9, 2017, 26-year-old Yingying Zhang was a visiting scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, building a new life thousands of miles from her home in China.
That afternoon, Yingying left campus to meet with a landlord about an apartment. She never arrived.
Surveillance footage captured her waiting beside a road. Moments later, a dark-colored Saturn Astra pulled up. Yingying approached the vehicle, spoke briefly with the driver, and got inside.
It was the last confirmed sighting of her.
What followed was an urgent investigation spanning the University of Illinois campus, local law enforcement, federal authorities, and Yingying's family, who had traveled from China in the desperate hope of finding her.
As investigators reconstructed her movements that afternoon, seemingly ordinary details became critical: a missed bus, a vehicle captured on surveillance, phone records, and a sequence of events that would gradually reveal just how little time had passed between Yingying's disappearance and the beginning of the search.

As investigators began examining Irene’s troubled marriage, a bitter dispute over a valuable property, and the threats she had reported in the months before her death, a far more disturbing picture began to emerge.
What followed was a sprawling investigation that would stretch across more than a decade, uncovering allegations of manipulation, betrayal, and a carefully arranged murder that had remained hidden in plain sight.

All stories, research, and scripts are created by real people. - In 2001, 40-year-old Terry King was found brutally murdered inside his home in Cantonment, Florida. At first glance, investigators believed they were looking at a straightforward homicide. But as the investigation unfolded, it exposed a disturbing web of manipulation, child exploitation, and one of the most controversial prosecutions in modern Florida history.
In this episode of Nightwatch Files, we examine the lives of Terry's sons, Alex and Derek King, and the influence of Ricky Chavis, a convicted child predator who spent years grooming vulnerable boys before becoming deeply embedded in the King family's life. We follow the investigation from the crime scene to the interrogation room, unravel the conflicting confessions, and explore how prosecutors presented contradictory theories in separate trials to secure convictions.
The King case became a landmark legal controversy, raising difficult questions about juvenile justice, coerced confessions, prosecutorial ethics, and the long-term effects of childhood trauma. More than two decades later, it remains one of Florida's most debated murder cases—not only because of what happened on the night Terry King died, but because of everything that led up to it.
