    Your RescueVerse Con Survival Guide

    16/04/2026 | 1h 47min
Whether you're registered for your first RescueVerse convention or just starting to think about going, this episode is your one-stop resource for everything you need to know before you get there. RescueVerse is Creation Entertainment's convention for 9-1-1 fans — Hen, Chimney, Buck, Eddie, and Buddie lovers alike. Han, Cil, and Rachel do our best Clipboard Buck impression as we regale you with our experience, spreadsheet and all.
We walk you through how Creation Entertainment conventions work and what sets them apart from a standard Comic Con, break down every type of guest interaction — photo ops, autographs, meet and greets, and selfies — and discuss why we recommend trying all of them at least once before deciding where to focus. We also explore how to plan your schedule, discuss budgeting your weekend, and answer all the questions our listeners sent in.
And throughout, we're sharing our own stories from RescueVerse Chicago, including what it's actually like to meet Oliver Stark, Ryan Guzman, and Kenneth Choi for the very first time, which interaction we'd choose if we had to pick just one, and a few moments from the weekend we're pretty sure we'll never stop talking about. If you're heading to New Jersey, Nashville, or Austin, this one's required listening. Come find us!

With a Little Help From My Friends (Season 9 Episode 16)

    09/04/2026 | 1h 57min
"What would you do if I sang out of tune? Would you stand up and walk out on me? Lend me your ears, then I'll sing you a song, I will try not to sing out of key."
Han, Cil, and Rachel put on our Sherlock Holmes hats for 9-1-1 Season 9, Episode 16, "Where There's Smoke," in which the 118 goes full Scooby Gang to clear Chimney's name, a review board uses every questionable call his team has made this past year as ammunition against his captaincy, and Eddie Diaz is literally a light in the darkness, a thread we trace all the way back through Día de los Muertos.
We explore why this episode is doing something genuinely different with its direction — the shaky handheld mob sequences, the extreme closeups that make you feel like you're being let in on the secret, the kitchen brainstorm where the camera moves the way your eyes actually would in a conversation — and why the ensemble structure here is a perfect foil to "Mother's Boy." Same cinematic ambition, completely opposite genre. Where 9x13 was a two-person thriller, this one is a mystery with the whole found family playing detective, and it works because everyone has a role, everyone shows up, and the whole thing is threaded through with the same core idea: we do this because we love you, not because we owe you. We also get into the red herring of Sam the people-pleaser and why dispatch becoming the Avengers compound for one episode was everything we didn't know we needed.
Then naturally, we talk about Eddie and unpack the marigold theory in full — why Eddie being the first face the migrants see lands with the specific symbolic weight it does when you put it in conversation with Día de los Muertos, Abuela's monologue, and what a marigold actually means as a beacon. We document the married behavior on full display in the Diaz family kitchen, which Buck and Eddie appear to be co-hosting as though that is simply the arrangement now. We track what "did Cap say when Buck's coming back" reveals about where Eddie is emotionally, pull the thread on why he's the only one we see eating Buck's baked goods, and draw the through line from Eddie’s "not everything" line in the season 2 finale, all the way to a Pyrex full of milk at breakfast.
We close out with our theories for the final two episodes of the season — what the titles might be telling us, where we think this is all heading for Eddie, and why safe/sane clowning is the only responsible way to get through the final stretch of this season.
So, grab a cookie, pull up a chair in the dispatch war room, and celebrate the 118 finally all being in the same room solving a mystery together with us!
"I get by with a little help from my friends. All I need is my buddies..."

Episode title inspired by "With a Little Help from My Friends" as performed by Joe Cocker

I’ll Call Your Mom (Season 9 Episodes 14-15)

    02/04/2026 | 2h 31min
"Stayed on the line with you the entire night, 'til you let it out and let it in"
Han, Cil, and Rachel are white knuckling their way through Season 9, Episode 14, "DIY," and Episode 15, "Pick Your Poison" — the two-episode arc where Buck's grief stops being quiet, the 118 shows up in every way that matters, and Eddie Diaz plays host at someone else's house like a man who has never once considered that this might be a little bit married of him.
We explore why this storyline works specifically because of who Buck is — neurodiverse, self-aware enough to know something is wrong, but not quite there on what to do about it. We make sure to give Oliver Stark and his performance across both episodes all the flowers he deserves and every Buddie System award we can hand out.
We document the intricate mating habits of the most coupled uncouple on television, breaking down the proxy argument playing out in stereo between an engaged couple… and Buddie. We get into Eddie hunting Buck down about a missed therapy appointment like a “nagging” wife, what it means that he's the one sitting still right next to Buck while everyone else moves in and out of the frame, and why across both of these episodes it's Eddie — not Maddie — who is Buck's primary support system, even if neither of them is ready to acknowledge or unpack that. We also dig into where Eddie is emotionally right now, why he's in his happiest era staying single and hanging out with the boys, and the cards Buck is holding during his game with Christopher that briefly sent 9-1-1 Twitter into full forensic investigation mode.
If you want someone to sit with you in the wreckage of these two episodes and walk through exactly why the Buck and Eddie of it all is moving in a very interesting direction — we've got you.
"Don't let this darkness fool you, all lights turned off can be turned on”

Stop Calling Buddie Queerbait: How 9-1-1 & Network TV Actually Work

    26/03/2026 | 3h 16min
Have you been doom scrolling 9-1-1 Twitter wondering why Buddie isn't canon yet? Put the phone down. We did the homework so you don't have to.
Han, Cil, and Rachel are joined by Alexa Donne — YA thriller author, TV industry distribution professional, and 9-1-1 obsessed Buddie Truther — to break down exactly how broadcast network television works and why understanding it will make you a much calmer, happier Buddie fan. You're welcome!
We dissect the fundamentals: the big four networks, how advertising actually drives creative decisions, and why the live+7 streaming numbers and key demographic data are what actually keep this show on the air — not your IMDB rating. We explore the very important difference between what the suits care about and what fandom THINKS the suits care about — and spoiler, they are not the same.
We get into the “Will They Won't They” math from Bones to Castle, including episode counts and timelines. We break it all down and by the end of it you will understand exactly where Buddie sits on the spectrum of iconic procedural slow burns — a reason to trust the process rather than abandon ship.
We also explore what it actually means that 9-1-1 is laying the groundwork for Gay Eddie and canon Buddie — not just for the show, but for queer representation on network television at large. This isn't just a ship, this is potentially groundbreaking television, and the people making it are crafting these stories with intention and care.
Which brings us to the moral of the story: the man who has been making network television since 1995, got his show saved and moved to a new network where he immediately got a bisexual storyline ON SCREEN, called himself a Buddie fan in the Washington Post, and described us as one of his lifelines — that man knows exactly what he wants the endgame to be. Tim Minear’s taking the scenic route, waiting to make it happen when the time and narrative is right, and as any good showrunner knows, that's the smartest play on network TV. Sit back, enjoy the ride through the country, and take a Buddie with you.
Special thanks again to Alexa for being our guide into the world of network TV! You can follow her on Instagram, @ AlexaDonne and YouTube, @ AlexaDonne!

Are We Out of The Woods Yet? (Season 9 Episode 13)

    19/03/2026 | 2h 40min
"We were built to fall apart, then fall back together"
Han, Cil, and Rachel are taking the scenic route through 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 13, "Mother's Boy" – an episode Tim Minear wrote himself, and the one that takes Buck and Eddie out of LA, drops them in Nowhere Town USA, and lets them be each other's person in the most Supernatural-coded way this show has ever attempted. We were not remotely prepared.
This episode is cinema and we mean that literally. We explore why the production is doing so much narrative heavy lifting this week – from the score, to the cinematography, to the editing choices that keep Buck and Eddie in sync even when they're miles apart. Jonathan Lawrence and PJ Russ built something that feels genuinely different from anything else this show has ever done and we get into exactly why it works so well.
Then we take a look at the character work, which is where this episode really lives. We dive into Buck's spiral – including the Shakespeare in the Diner crash out – what he's actually communicating when he decides to sacrifice himself, and the specific psychology of a man who has been told his whole life that people leave. We also take a magnifying glass to the homophobia in this episode in depth – because it is not subtle and neither is Eddie's reaction to it. Why does he take it so personally? Why is he the one starting a fight when everything this season has shown us that's not who he is anymore? We dig into why Eddie's reaction to both instances tells us something he hasn't said out loud yet.
Oh, and the night this episode aired, a TVLine interview dropped where Tim Minear named The Buddie System as “one of his lifelines.” We saw our name in print, lost our minds on main, and naturally had to address it because how could we not. Big night for insufferable people. Huge.
For Buddie, we explore why this episode is a pivotal chapter in a story that is very clearly building toward something. We look at the editing, the sacrifices, the gravity of two people who cannot stay mad at each other no matter what. We break down what all of it means for where this season is heading and why this episode feels like a turning point.
If you've been waiting all season for a Buddie episode that does something with everything the show has been laying down, if you need someone to sit with you in the wreckage of this road trip and explain why the chaos is actually the point, or if you just want to hear three people work through their Supernatural-induced emotional damage via 9-1-1 analysis — hit play! We'll take the back roads with you.
"When the sun came up, you were looking at me."
Episode title inspired by "Out of the Woods" by Taylor Swift
