Episode Rewind 40th Anniversary edition: Labyrinth with special guest Jared Anderson

    10/07/2026 | 1h 44min
It's Summer Vacation and we're taking 2 weeks off to recharge. In the meantime, enjoy these rewind episodes reviewing a couple of our favorite films that just happen to be turning 40 this year! Enjoy this classic MTMUG episode originally released April 15, 2022.
"Turn Back, Sarah. Turn back before it's too late." We watched Labyrinth (1986) with our good-Judy Jared Anderson and we wish the Goblin King would come and take you away… right now. Sixteen-year-old Sarah (Jennifer Connelley) faces off against Jareth the Goblin King (David Bowie) and a generation's sexual awakening began. Bowie is giving androgynous ren-faire realness and Connelley is giving ethereal drama-kid/teen model. And you can trust and believe we get into that cod-piece. Is it icky that the Goblin King is so actively seducing this young girl?  A little, but it's all fantasy and (spoiler alert) Sarah finds her way back to her kick ass bedroom in her dad and stepmoms sweet Victorian house in Portland.  The puppet work by Jim Henson's Creature Shop will transport you to another world, the costumes will make you want to head over to Party City right now, and the MUSIC! Don't get us started on the soundtrack by David Bowie.  It's FIRE.  Grab a cold mug of mead, break out your tights and lets get theatrical!  Say it with us… "You have no power over me!"

    331. Boys on the Side with special guests Anne & Ashley from "How Do You Drew"Podcast

    03/07/2026 | 2h 11min
"She's holding you back, man. Everybody says so. She's like Yoko with bangs." We watched "Boys on the Side" with Ashley and Anne from "How Do You Drew" and we'll be right back after we gas up the minivan. Drew Barrymore is the common denominator of this Podcast Crossover event - and our dearest Drew is in peak form in this film. The barrel-curled bob is as iconically '90s as you can get, and she is a short year away from her biggest career comeback yet in "Scream," but her work in this film about the power of female friendship really shows her star power. Hot on the heels of a certain other film about the power of female friendship (MTMUG episode 327), we have our dear Mary-Louise Parker playing another ill-fated character gone before her time and the legendary Whoopi Goldberg playing a lesbian rock singer with an axe to grind. We adore the mystical Arizona landscape, the easy rapport built between our three leads, and of course, The Indigo Girls as… themselves? We also find out just how many times Mary-Louise Parker has been offed on-screen. Let's just say she gives Sean Bean a run for his money. Don't forget to visit www.thedrewseum.com and listen to "How Do You Drew" to keep up with Anne and Ashley.

    330. Now and Then with special guest Michael Valvo

    26/06/2026 | 2h 11min
"All women have a garden, and a garden needs a big hose to water it... or a small hose... as long as it works." We watched "Now and Then" with a friend of the pod, Michael Valvo, and we'd like to speak to the spirit of Dear Johnny. This movie will forever be iconic and not just as the girl version of "Stand By Me." The comparisons are inevitable, but reductive - especially once you've actually watched the movie, Tamar.  The legacy and cultural impact of "Now and Then" are undeniable and thanks in no small part to the cast - millennials grew up with Christina Ricci, Gaby Hoffmann, Thora Birch, and Ashleigh Aston Moore (and Devon Sawa). These girls are best friend goals, and their summer together in 1970 is an adventure we're all still chasing. If we lived in the Gaslight Addition, we'd spend our entire summer bothering Wiladene, the waitress (Janeane Garofalo) at the diner, and her fortune-telling night job. Take us back to a time before MTV, Nintendo, and all the other modern distractions of 90's teenagers.

    329. Scream 4 with special guest Joshua Tonks

    19/06/2026 | 2h 6min
"You forgot the first rule of remakes, Jill. Don't F**k with the original." We watched "Scream 4" with our friend Joshua Tonks and we might just have to re-evaluate our ranking of the Scream Franchise. This movie was a reset for the Franchise and it holds a special place for many in the fandom. The opening scene in any Scream movie is iconic (obviously) but this entry really blows the roof off the joint and lets the audience know we're in for a ride. The first 3 movies work so well as a trilogy but 4 is like a factory reset and really feels like we're being setup for a new storyline. As it happens we didn't get a new trilogy - but this movie stands alone in the franchise as a terrific, almost singular story. Our new cast is amazing, Emma Roberts and Hayden Panettiere are particularly stellar, and our core returning cast deliver as always. "Oh, and by the way, your lemon squares taste like a**".

    328. Masters of the Universe Directed by Travis Knight

    12/06/2026 | 1h 27min
"I am Adam, Prince of Eternia, defender of the secrets of Castle Grayskull." We watched "Masters of the Universe" (2026), directed by Travis Knight, and yes, we have the power. Although this movie may have been made for a very niche audience, if you let your guard down, you might just have some fun. This production was a long time in the making, plagued by changes in the cast, directors, and studios, but the final product was worth the wait. Nicholas Galitzine shines as Prince Adam, the muscle bound Eterian hero banished to Earth, yearning for his fantastical home. All of us little gay boys knew the feeling of not belonging here! As hard a pill it may be to swallow, we can also report that the legendary b*ner k*ller, Jared Leto, is doing some fine work as Skeletor. He pines after He-Man, trapped in a homoerotic dance that our audience loved, and showcased some actual comedic timing. The supporting cast was fierce, the costumes were on point, and the cameos were plentiful. Overall, it's… not bad. Check out our spoiler-filled review for our thoughts on the post-credits scenes and what's to come!

Sobre Movies That Made Us Gay
This is the podcast where we watch a movie from our past that had a lasting impression on our little gay lives. If we had no business watching it - we stole our parents VHS copy and watched under the cover of night. If a diva gave a rousing speech - we memorized it and lip-synced it at a talent show. Join Scott and Pete each week for a look back at the Movies That Made Us Gay!
