  • Ade Adepitan MBE
Paralympic medallist turned broadcaster, Ade Adepitan MBE, chats to Gabby about his journey to the midpoint and why family life came a little bit later for him. Ade shares how sport completely changed his life - giving him a new found freedom as a young disabled person - and describes the single-mindedness required to be an athlete and compete at the highest levels in wheelchair basketball. He talks openly about becoming estranged from his parents, living alone from the age of 17, but how time allowed for the healing that ultimately led to a beautiful reconciliation with his parents. Ade also speaks frankly about the realities of life as a wheelchair user and why he was concerned about his children being born with a disability, in spite of all he has done and achieved in his life. They discuss why a challenge that’s your own personal choice can be so rewarding, and why Ade believes a win-a-day is so vital to our wellbeing and sense of self. Ade’s story is one of determination, resilience, and hope; and this episode is not to be missed. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  • Sally Gunnell OBE, Helen Glover MBE, Karen Carney OBE & Dame Denise Lewis on Accelerating Action this International Women's Day
Ahead of International Women’s Day on 8th March, Gabby has brought a very special group of women together to talk about the road to parity; what progress has been made, and what still needs to happen to secure gender equality. All four of these women have achieved sporting greatness, and redefined what it means to be a female in sport; Karen Carney OBE played football well over 100 times for England, hurdler Sally Gunnell OBE once held the Commonwealth, European, World, and Olympic titles concurrently, Dame Denise Lewis was the first British woman to win an Olympic gold medal in the heptathlon, and two-time Olympic champion Helen Glover MBE blazed a new trail when she came out of retirement to compete at the Olympics after having her children. All of them have overcome gender barriers at the cutting edge of elite sports and are passionate about leaving things in a better place for the next generation of women whatever their goals or aspirations may be; they embody the determination and will - not to mention, the competitive nature! - that's needed to #AccelerateAction this International Women’s Day. • Sir Chris Hoy
Sir Chris Hoy is a British sporting icon who has battled his way to the top of the Olympic podium multiple times, but little did he know that the toughest battle was awaiting him in midlife. At the age of 47, Chris was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer. In this episode, Chris opens up about the shock and emotion of the first few weeks and months, and how he tried to use all the tools he’d learned from his time as a professional athlete to get through the treatment that was keeping him alive. He is candid about how different his mindset is even compared to six months ago, and how his wife, Sara, has helped him to see how lucky they are as a family, despite receiving her own life changing diagnosis at the same time. Remarkably, Chris has found a way to stay in the moment and not hang on too tightly to a future that is guaranteed to no-one; this episode will certainly get you thinking about what is truly important in life. For more from Chris, check out his autobiography All That Matters which is out now.
