Fredrik och Pierre Ossman snackar VNC, och SD-kortläsardrivrutiner.
Pierres väg in i den öppna källkodens värld var - som för många andra? - att någonting inte funkade. I hans fall var det läsning av SD-kort. Till skillnad från åtminstone de flesta blev han med tiden ansvarig för kortläsarstödet i Linux, och fick som bonus prylar hemskickade som numera samtliga ersatts med ens telefon.
Men huvudämnet är VNC och saker kring VNC som Pierre har hjälpt till att förbättra i sitt jobb med VNC-lösningen (med mera!) Thinlinc. Till exempel prestanda, latens, och ljudhantering. Pierre och Cenido där han jobbar råkade bli centrala i utvecklingen av Pulseaudio under en period. Bland annat med att porta det hela till Windows.
Vi snackar också aktuella utmaningar just nu - att hantera GPU:er, göra stabilare Python, och att Linux inte är en lika homogen plattform som exempelvis Windows eller Mac. Ändå har Thinlinc ett enda bygge som funkar på alla stödda versioner av Linux. Hur lyckas man med det?!
Mot slutet diskuterar vi hur vad man värderar som utvecklare förändras över tid, och att naturligt gå över från att vara ren utvecklare till att också vara produktägare.

Fredrik chats with Mark Washeim about building apps for Sailfish OS and Jolla phones.
What's it like to develop apps for a Jolla phone? Fredrik asked for experts on Mastodon. A whole list was quickly provided, with Mark both being at the top and very happy to say yes to coming on an episode. Maintaining over 50 apps and packages, and running Jolla phones for ten years, Mark really knows his stuff. We discuss his path to Jolla, how one gets started, which languages and tools are available, and why some of them aren't quite the latest versions.
