16/07/2026 | 36minIn this episode, I break down the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems in a way that goes way beyond the vocabulary test version. You'll learn:
- what triggers each system
- which neurotransmitters and receptors are involved
- what happens to each major body system when one is dominant,
- how understanding this makes drug mechanisms predictable instead of mysterious.
By the end, you'll be able to look at medications like atropine, epinephrine, metoprolol, and albuterol and understand exactly why they do what they do, including the side effects.
If pharmacology has felt like a wall of memorization up until now, this episode is the key that changes that.

#485: Why Nursing School Feels Overwhelming - Learn how cognitive load theory explains why you struggle to retain information no matter how much you study — and the five-step approach that helps nursing students study smarter, not longer.

Sobre Straight A Nursing: Study for nursing school exams & NCLEX
In this show, Maureen Osuna, MSN, RN (Nurse Mo) breaks down a wide range of nursing school concepts so they’re easy to understand. Each episode aims to help nursing students improve their study techniques, pass nursing school exams, and feel more confident in clinical. If you’re nervous about nursing school, not “getting it” in lecture, or feeling overwhelmed with all the information you have to learn, this podcast will help you optimize your study time so you can learn more with less stress.
While nursing school is challenging, it doesn’t have to be impossible. When concepts are explained in a way that “just makes sense”, nursing students have better recall on exams, feel more confident working with patients in clinical, and are better prepared for NCLEX.
Nurse Mo understands the struggles nursing students face and draws on more than 11 years of clinical experience to make nursing school less intimidating. Each episode removes the “fluff” and focuses on the key things a nursing student (and nurse) needs to know about a variety of disease conditions. The show also provides tips for succeeding in nursing school, guidance for students and new nurses, and insider information to help you excel at the bedside.
