In today's segment, I sat down with Elsa Matsumoto to talk about perinatal mental health and patterns of mothering in her lineage. We explore what support has looked like across generations, what perinatal mental health means and the challenges surrounding it...highlighting how migration, stress and support can impact relationships for new parents. Elsa shares her personal experience of mothering herself in the absence of her own mother, giving us the opportunity to understand how she has healed and carried herself forward. 
About today's guest: Elsa Matsumoto is a Licenced Clinical Social Worker and Perinatal Mental Health-Certified (PMH-C) working with diverse communities, including mothers and expectant mothers. She is the founder of Nueve Lunas Therapy and Wellness. As a first generation Mexican-American, Elsa is on a mission to identity systemic disparities that impact families to learn effective, culturally affirming ways to bridge the gap between identity and wellness.

In this episode, I spoke with Viridiana Zendejas, LCSW about the eldest daughter role within a Latine family, where we discussed common character traits carried by daughters, and what unseen grief is like. Viridiana and I discussed how the current administration and ICE raids specifically impact eldest daughters. Drawing from her experience, we explored strategies to support eldest daughters including inner child work.
