New Frontiers - S4 Ep4 - Advances in HIT Workflow
25/11/2025 | 25min
Welcome to New Frontiers, the podcast where Hemostasis meets innovation. In this fourth episode, we spotlight Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia (HIT), a critical condition that demands swift diagnosis to prevent life-threatening complications. Together with Rossella Marcucci, Full Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Florence and Director of the “Atherothrombotic Diseases” unit at Careggi University Hospital, we’ll discover the differences between Type I and Type II HIT, explore its pathophysiology, and highlight how automated testing can accelerate diagnosis, reduce uncertainty, and help clinicians avoid unnecessary treatment shifts. Join us in pushing boundaries and powering better patient care!

New Frontiers - S4 Ep1 - Bayesian QC
04/11/2025 | 58min
Welcome to New Frontiers, the podcast where Hemostasis meets cutting-edge innovation. In our debut episode, we dive into the world of data with Dr. Panagiotis Tsiamyrtzis, a leading voice in Statistical Process Control and Bayesian methods, teaching at Politecnico di Milano and the Athens University of Economics and Business. Together, we’ll explore the strengths and limitations of Frequentist versus Bayesian approaches, and discover how Bayesian models—adaptive, self-starting, and powered by prior knowledge—can revolutionize Quality Control, especially when data is scarce. Tune in and find out how smart statistics are reshaping the future of Hemostasis.

Clot stories - S3 Ep4 - Meet Nusaiba
22/7/2025 | 41min
I’m Nusaiba, at 20 I had a two pulmonary embolism 10 months apart while studying at university. It was devastating and impacted every aspect of my life, I was completely unaware of how difficult recovery can be and did not know anything about some of the unexpected side effects of blood thinners. Four years down the line, I have had to adjust to a new normal where life involves a lot of hospital appointments! As a young person with a clot I had to navigate recovery while finishing my degree and now working full time, while also trying to enjoy life as a young person! I hope by sharing my story both patients and clinicians will learn about the complexities of having blood clots and that recovery can be very hard but you will get better!
